How to Make Polymer Clay Beads

Posted by Rituparna Ghosh on

Let's make some beads! making beads for polymer clay earrings is trendy and fun! Here are a few ideas...

Here's what you'll need :

  • Clay
  • Acrylic roller
  • Acrylic squishy plate
  • A baking tray
  • Bead baking rack/ Skewer
  • Bead piercing tool/ Toothpick

Start by conditioning your clay. Make a snake and put a ruler next to it to measure equal distances. Cut the clay and roll  the pieces into balls. Try rolling them with the squishy plate to avoid fingerprints.

Now for piercing, use a toothpick, or for more precision use the bead piercing tool/ the needles from the bead rack.

If you're using skewers, gently thread the beads onto one. Then leave gaps in the middle so they don't touch each other. Press the skewers on the baking tray and bake at 275 degrees fahrenheit for at least 40 minutes.

If you're using a baking rack, thread the beads on the needles provided. Place them on the tray and bake at 275 degrees fahrenheit for at least 40 minutes.

After the beads cool down to touch, slide them off of the skewers or needles.

Now the beads are ready to be used for any projects!
